Shaping Blocks

In this episode of Surf Sufficient, we make a shaping/glassing/ding repair rack out from simple materials available at your local hardware store. These racks make surfboard creation and repair much easier. They have a similar functionality to saw horses but allow you set your board on rail for shaping, sanding and fixing rail dings.

Couple things I’ve found after using this for a while…
    1) The top horizontal wood pieces that lay flat beneath the board weren’t supported enough in this design. I’ve since added a triangle shaped piece of wood beneath each tab and drilled them into the vertical posts as well these unstable wood tabs- this fixed the problem
    2) Make sure you add only a 4-6 inch layer of concrete to the bucket at first (just enough to keep the posts in place) and let harden. If you pour the whole bucket with concrete, its weight and expansion while hardening will bow the bottom of the bucket and make it unstable.
