Cory Bluemling sent us over these photos of the trophies he made for this year’s Malibu Surf Association Classic. All handcrafted and unique, these trophies are one of a kind. Nice work Cory!

Here’s what he had to say:

I’m finishing up the last little bit for this year’s MSA Classic trophies and I thought I’d share.

Last year I made a mold out of a press-relief of one of the mosaics on the infamous ‘wall’ at malibu and turned out 94 cold cast bronze trophies, plus two that I sand cast in solid bronze for Matt Kivlin and Yvon Chouniard.

This year I tried to incorporate some ceramic work (as that is the focus of my training) and decided to make a mold from a cheap plastic surf trophy then re-cast it in a fine porcelain, fired in a kiln I built.  Then I cut, routed, scrolled, sanded, and stained a lot of wood that I used to present the focal point of the trophy.  I tried to recreate the look of the small stones visible on the inside section at malibu at low tide with pieces of ‘trophies’ scattered amongst them.  Items embedded in the resin really gave a nice look as if everything was still wet.  Okay, hope you dig!    -cb
