This is from my first film Riding Waves which I made at 19 years old in 2003. I’d met Dane while surfing in the local pro events around California and was blown away by his radical flow. Surfer Magazine has pitted us against his awesome “Marine Layer” blog this week and although I’m not sure what to think of this or their whole “battle,” I thought it would be a good excuse to post this clip in honor of Dane.

even back then you can really see the power in his surfing, there’s a couple Knox-esque power turns in there for sure.. Has Dane ever tried a bonzer?
