Really nice work. Do you use anything to treat the wood? I noticed you brushing something on over the decorative burn…

Ya, I just used linseed oil because that’s what was sitting around. We covered all of the planter boxes with one coat. I’d imagine any natural sealant would work, but it needs to breathe otherwise it will rot inside the box killing your plants and ruining your boxes over time.

this is great but here’s a few more tips:

poultry wire of the type shown in the vid has mesh too big to keep out small voles and adolescent gophers — if you can get it, use galvanized hardware cloth instead, it has a smaller mesh. this is usually only a big problem if you have shitloads of gophers around though.

you can also use doug fir which will be a lot cheaper, but it will rot eventually. but if you are on a budget and don’t need the beds to last 10 years, it works.

the nailgun will get the job done quick and easy but for a nice finished look you can drill in 3/8″ pilot holes on the corner joins, and fit galvanized lag bolts into them.
