Stranger Than Friction

Filmed on one winter day, Ryan Burch lays into his 4’10″ block of styrofoam. He took a saw to a soft top surfboard blank and voila- no fins, no resin or fiberglass, no stringer, no leash… just a square chunk of foam. More shenanigans coming soon via the new surf film “stoked and broke” a surfari epic on zero dollars.

don’t worry- he won’t stop surfing. we were talking to ryan the other day we figured out he surfs an average of 6 hours per day. 4 hours in the winter when the days are shorter and 8 hours in the summer.

This is great!!! Reminds me of Mike Wallow.. North end Manhattan… K-55 North Baja… the shape of the waves…Early 70s….Mike surfed a 4ft. 10 in. Auga
Board, shaped by Wayne Olsen. The board had a slot, which gave the rails a cutting edge, yet very loose.
Mike surfed it standing, and pulled 360′s… bottom turns etc… we were all stoked back then… took up the concept… Rode under 5 ft. twin fins… Mike was the one…. cutting edge surfing on a finless under 5 ft. Auga board….. All happened at North-end Manhattan ! Eric Bass, Brian Tuli, Scott Enochs,
the Bates brothers.. Grimy Bob and Dirty Dave…Bill and Boo Craimer……
Grimy Bob and Dirty Dave were the Original shapers for DABO MATI…they created the ACMI Glassing factory.. garage shaping, airbrushing and glassing over on 30th st. behind the Armory ! So much more to say… ask me later.
