A 3rd generation artist, Tyler Warren approaches everything with patience and focus. In this All Yew episode by Korduroy TV, Tyler shapes a 4’10″ Simmons inspired planing hull from a stringerless blank. The result is what he’s dubbed the “Bar of Soap” due to its slippery maneuverability and silky smooth carves. Watch Tyler put it through its paces on the high performance walls of Lower Trestles.

Thanks for this video; this was great! Tyler is an amazing combination of surfer, shaper, and artist. So cool to see the shape come to life, and then ridden in great surf. I’m forced to rethink what’s possible on the Simmons inspired boards, or any type of board for that matter. His surfing is nuts!

During one of my sessions out at a notable left-hand La Jolla reef last year, Ryan Burch and Pickle paddled out. It was probably about head high to a little overhead and gnarly like how that spot usually is at that size. Pickle was on a board just like this and absolutely shredding! It was a twinnie that looked like a bar of soap and I believe he told me it was a 5’2.
