Exhibitionists: Shelby Ling

A while back, Shelby Ling gave us some pointers on how to care for a wetsuit. In addition to her expertise there, she’s also a rad painter and textile designer. Here she shares some info about her art along with some images of water colors and textiles that will undoubtedly make you smile.

Who are your top 3 artistic influencers?

Geninne D Zlatkis, Allyson Mellberg and Justin Morrison. All are currently illustrators with very cool styles. But I’m also influenced by designers and textile artists.

Where do you create your art?

I’m lucky enough to have a spare bedroom that I built a huge work table in. It’s organized chaos.

How much time do you typically spend on each piece?

Anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on how into it I am.

What mediums do you work in?

Textile, watercolor, acrylic and now digital!

Do you have any advice for young artists?

Keep doing it if you love it! There’s no reason why you shouldn’t.
