Under the tutelage of Ernie Higgins of Waterlines Unlimited, Micah Wood has quickly learned the craft of board building. From designing boards to shaping, glassing, resin pinlining, glossing, and polishing, Micah has provided himself with rare skills to be a one stop shop. And with great attention to detail and his skills on the surfboard, particularly the nose, Micah has been able to hone in on creating a better board.

Being a creative mind, his prowess with the hands and eye also lends to some beautiful artwork on top of making surfboards. In particular his watercolor paintings and abstract resin pieces, are a strong reflection of that artist within.

In this episode of Korduroy’s All Yew series we take a departure from pro-level surfers shaping cutting edge surfboards and explore the rootsy business of local San Diego shaper Caleb Wilborn. Shaping his first board at fifteen, Caleb now makes his boards from start to finish by hand from shaping to glassing. His simple, well-crafted boards have been the favorites of many North SD County surfers for years and we thought we’d shine a light on his operation.
