Last year Cyrus sat down with Andrew to record a song from his new album “Windy Hills” and discuss his views on surfing. The resulting collage of music, words and footage from Mick Waters circa 2002-2004 is a real treat to watch and is one of our favorites episodes to date.

Holly Beck began surfing at the age of 15 and never looked back. With an NSSA title under her belt and years of traveling on the WQS as one of the top surfers in the world, Holly has hung up the contest jersey for a more simple and purposeful life. Setting up shop in Central America on a remote piece of land just steps from perfect waves, she has begun to carve out her own ideal lifestyle, running surf and yoga retreats, empowering women to take a little adventure and step out of the mundane. We caught up with Holly during our recent trip to El Salvador to find out a bit more about how she decided to change her path and what she is working on creating down south.

For more on Holly’s retreats in Central America check out her website at http://surfwithhollybeck.com/ or stay up to date with her adventures at http://hollybeckadventures.com/ and http://hipehabitat.com/

Ryan Heywood grew up on Australia’s NSW Central Coast. It was in this historically rich surf environment where his infatuation with nature and the ocean spawned. His forays into photography were founded in high school where a natural ability to burn beautiful moments to film formed. At 20 he started to work commercially as a photographer, allowing him time to experiment with the various tools that accompany image art. Medium format cameras, 35mm SLR’s, Polaroid’s, water housings and skateboards all became essential tools to his unique vision. Having successful solo shows in both Australia and the US, Ryan consistently shoots editorial and advertising for surf industry heavyweights while creating visual diaries and steering his online bodysurfing magazine. In this episode of InnerViews, we visit Ryan’s studio and discuss photographic inspiration, celluloid expression and his fondness of capturing those sacred moments.

When the rare California summer swell roars across the pacific, there’s only a handful of surfers who consistently charge the resulting waves of consequence. Jojo Roper is one of these surfers. Jojo’s father, Joe Roper is a San Diego legend who spent decades dividing his time between fixing dings at his own shop and riding for Gordon and Smith as a surfer/skater. Recognized for his tuberiding ability in Hawaii, he was invited to the Pipeline Masters in 1983 and 84. Joe’s son Jojo has been a staple on the club contest scene for years, styling for Windansea Surf Club as grom on all kinds of surfboards. In the past few years Jojo has taken after his old man and when he’s not fixing dings with Joe and crew, he’s hunting down the heaviest tubes he can find.

We stumbled upon Shane doing ding repair in Bylesy’s used surfboard shop outside Byron Bay. After defeating Kelly Slater at the Coke Classic at Narrabeen in 1992, Shane Herring was proclaimed the greatest Australian surfer since Michael Peterson. But cover shots, a six-figure salary and endless parties eventually undid the focus and determination of this rising star. In a post Andy Irons world, Shane’s story serves as a cautionary tale for up-and-coming surfers regarding the dangerous effects fame and money can have on fragile young egos. While not retired in a mansion, Shane now seems to have found inner peace. And over a cigarette and bottle of wine, shares some of his struggles and lessons learned in the world of surf stardom in this episode of Korduroy’s InnerViews.
