This is a short film we made a few months back about Dodge and Wyatt. Cy saw their YouTube video and was inspired to show how these gremmies took barrel riding to their street. This summer it seems everybody is getting blue tarp barrels from Christian surfers to Big Wave Surfers in Santa Cruz.

Taken in 2004 from during the Pipeline Masters with a trusty (and sometimes not) 16mm Bolex camera. This clip gives a rare glimpse into the action at the world’s most famous surf contest from an angle few people see. The last few shots were taken during the final. Cy had the best seat in the house for many of the waves including Jamie O’brien’s winning wave, but upon developing that footage it was clear the film was not “registering” in the gate correctly. The result wasn’t tv friendly, but we dig it…

It seems like no matter where you go these days, nobody does it like the locals. Their surfing is so natural and playful like they are apart of their break. Here’s a little clip from deep in Mexico “that secret spot” that everyone knows about on a good summer swell.

Opening south swell of summer 2010 featured a solid crowd with all the familiar faces plus loggers from up and down the coast. All mingled for waves along Malibu’s inner-most point satisfying their craving for long perfect peelers. Featuring Kassia Meador, Mikey DeTemple, Josh Farberow, Allen Sarlo, Joel Tudor, and Cyrus Sutton.

The displacement hull is a unique surfcraft designed to slice and glide across refined point waves and are characterized by knifey rails, a thin flexible fin, and low rocker. Although speed and trim come naturally to these boards, they require impeccable timing and wave knowledge. Few in the world have mastered their quirky flow like Jimmy Gamboa who’s shown in this clip tearing apart the glassy Malibu walls he’s grown up surfing.
