Maki Longboards

Maki Longboards is a surf-skate company that brings together the creative interests, skills, and passions of Erik Maki.

Growing up in San Francisco, Erik spent countless hours in his grandfather's shop exploring the various uses of the hand tools and machinery from a bygone era. A true jack-of-all trades, "Grandpa Lou" has served as a source of inspiration and constant role model throughout Erik's life. Under his tutelage, Maki learned at an early age the value of quality craftsmanship and the rewarding feeling of a job well done.

In college at the University of California - San Diego, Erik developed a deep respect for the ocean while leading kayaking and surf trips along the rocky coastline of Baja California. On land, all he could do was dream of capturing the glide only a kayak or longboard can provide. The first vision of Maki Longboards came in 2007 from the realization that there had to be a way to make a longboard skateboard that looked and rode more like a surfboard than other skateboards at that time.

Since then, Erik Maki has developed his own brand of surf-skateboards by seeking a balance between classic design and modern sustainable construction practices. After graduation he went to work building boards while learning to incorporate more sustainable products and processes along the way. Today, the Maki lineup includes refined shapes utilizing the classic stylings of resin tints and pinlines to showcase the natural beauty of wood. Erik's boards are built using various "better" ingredients including water based glues, sustainable woods, and Entropy's SuperSap bio resin.

He currently lives and works in El Segundo, CA.
