SLidetober Surf COntest
So last week was the DEUS Ex Machina Slidetober Fest Surf COntest and it went down in Changgu, Bali in 2-3 foot surf. The format was different from a conventional contest where you had a choice of around 30 boards to choose from for your heat. Most dudes rode fish style shapes and the selection was pretty rad to choose from. Bonzers, single fins, twinnys, quads, were all there for the shredding. This was my second ever contest I was invited into and well, I guess my shredding wasnt enough to get me into round 2. Although, i can hold my head high because I was knocked out by eventual winner, former CT standout and Auzzie legend Nathan “Noodles” Webster.
It was so sick to be in a heat with him and him and I even got into a minor paddle battle for a small crumb in the middle of the heat. Classic, i almost baited the legend into an interferance but he was so focused on winning he didnt take the bait. Actually, i just wanted a party wave with him:) So the rest of my contest was watching heats, eating bbq, and drinking free Coronas while i got in a free surf or 2 throughout the day.
Other notable standouts who showed up for the event were Creed McTaggert, Andrew “Droid” Doheny, Jason “Salsa” Salisbury. defending champ Tai Graham, & Noodles. All these guys were lighting it up and it came down to a 2 horse race with Tai and Noodles going at it in the final for the trophy, bragging rights, and a custom shred stick. In the end, Noodles was way to polished and his forehand was totally on proving that there is a reason why he is the current over 35 world champion taking out Tom Curren. Legend. Here is some of the photos from the day, and into the night we partied so it got loose.
