hector's & maui's dolphins on brink of extinction

Less than 10 years ago there were an estimated 111 Maui's dolphins left.  As of now, there are an estimated 55 adults left, less than was estimated when these videos below were made a few months ago.  Peggy Oki let me know about this, and I feel it's worth passing the word on.  Peggy and crew are collecting visual petitions to help spread awareness and also to try to protect these critically endangered dolphins, you can visit their site here:

  • timmy

    timmy

Timmy Turner, S16mm film frame.  This was Timmy's first trip back to the tropics after getting a major portion of his skull replaced with an artificial one.  It was due to a staph infection that went out of control, and ate away at his skull.  I don't remember why, but I only got a few frames of this ride.  Maybe I was at the end of a wind on my camera, which has to be wound up between shots, and then it'll run for about 25 seconds.

Going to put this wave design on a t-shirt.  But I'll change the logo which I really rushed through.  Painted this up with gouache last night.

  • pink & blue

    pink & blue

Sketched this one up with pen and highlighters.  It glows a bit more in real life.  After I started sketching this one I started to think of old Vision Gator decks of the 80's.  So that's a bit of the inspiration on this design.  My first proper deck was a used Gator, complete with neon tail guard, nose guard, and rails.

  • stained glass

    stained glass

New poster concept from my sketchbook.  Drew this a while ago, forgot about it, remembered it and then couldn't find which sketchbook it was in.  Found it the other day and just colored it in during the train ride back home this evening.  This one is inspired by my friend Graham Mace's amazing glass art.  I'll be posting about him and his art soon.

  • Kobalt Spader - Korduroy 2.0 poster concept

Kobalt Spader - Korduroy 2.0 poster concept

Kobalt Spader - he's a little bit different than his cousin Vader.

I really wanted to do a small silkscreen poster run of this design to celebrate the launch of Korduroy 2.0.  But when Kobalt's cousin's legal team threatened to come down on me with the fury of a fully operational death star, I decided to retreat...for now.

  • kookuroy roy - OK let's go!

kookuroy roy - OK let's go!

Every time Kookuroy Roy paddles for a wave he says to himself outloud, "OK, let's go!"

"Why does he always say that?" one kid surfer says to another.

    "laaaaame..." the other kid says.

Kookuroy Roy falls more often than actually standing up on his board.  But he still keeps going for it, each time with an enthusiastic stoked out, "OK, let's go!"
