U Can Ukulele

Surf Sufficient

Originating in the 19th century, this small guitar-like instrument was brought to Hawaii from Portugal where it became an important figure in Hawaiian music and culture. Now, the ukulele has been re-popularized over the years with musical legends like Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and even Eddie Vedder utilizing the unique sounds of this unique sounding guitar.

In this new episode of Surf Sufficient, our friend Hank Johnson shows some basic ukulele 101 by demonstrating a few chords and strumming techniques on one of his handcrafted ukes.

Nice, Makes me want to learn to play better. It's all about the strumming. Chapstick on the fingers helps them slip across the strings without hangups..
