Elmo Hernandez, a longboarder and photographer from the North Coast of Spain, prefers monstrous waves as his subjects. He captures them at the pinnacle of their fury, just as they break to unleash their incredible store of violent energy. The bass-heavy rock song he’s chosen parallels the unbridled energy of the lone waves he’s photographed.
He explains his song choice: “I’ve focused the subject on big lonely waves. The song I’ve chosen is ‘Gardenia,’ by Kyuss. I think this is the perfect sound that recalls the roar of big waves breaking in the sea. It shows and describes perfectly both the beauty and savageness of a big swell, the thing I like the most about the coastal environment.”
