Josh Rufford likes to draw, paint and animate using pens, ink, acrylic, watercolours and any kind of found objects to create interesting visual compositions. He currently works as a graphic designer by day and freelance illustrator/animator by night. He likes coffee, skateboarding, hot chips and beer. Here is a sample of the work that he does.
1.) Who are your top 3 artistic influencers?
I don’t think I could narrow it down to just three! But here is a shortened list of influencers I’m current stoking on:
Oliver Jeffers, Travis Millard, Mel Kadel, Anouck Boisrobert & Louis Rigaud, Reg Mombassa, Jeff Raglus, Tim Fite, Michael Sieben
2.) Where do you create your art?
My wife and I currently live in a one bedroom apartment and we are both illustrators/art makers, so we converted the bedroom into a studio and we sleep in the study/sunroom. We’re little so it’s comfy for us!
3.) How much time do you typically spend on each piece?
As long as I feel like unless it is needed for a deadline like an exhibition or a commission. Some pieces never feel finished and some are done in 30 seconds and need nothing else.
4.) What mediums do you work in?
Mostly pen & ink, acrylic paints, watercolours, little bits of reclaimed timbers, and any interesting offcuts or scraps I find lying around.
5.) Do you have any advice for young artists?
Draw lots and make things with your hands.
