Just by looking at Kim Kirch’s artwork, you can tell she’s overflowing with energy and personality. She’s been a competitive wakeboarder and snowboarder for a while, but now she’s settled back in San Diego to focus on college, a job charting boats and her art. Get to know her a bit here.
1.) Who are your top 3 artistic influencers?
Mad Steez, Mike Ennen, Mike Giant…. Mikes ya know
2.) Where do you create your art?
I have a garage studio in San Diego that I do the majority of my work at. I travel quite a bit and am an early riser. I generally don’t have much to do in the mornings but paint while the rest of the crew sleeps, so I always bring water color, ink pens, and a skateboard to keep me entertained.
3.) How much time do you typically spend on each piece?
Just depends… I do work really quickly if I’ve got a good idea. I’ll just paint till its done.
4.) What mediums do you work in?
Water color, ink, acrylic paint, spray paint, house paint, whatever I can get my hands on.
5.) Do you have any advice for young artists?
I’ll give you a little advice that the gardener down the street gave me… “Don’t let nobody give you them wooden nickels.”
