Naresh Kumar (@iamarunr) completed his first marathon in India in 2009 as a dare between him and his friends who had all never run before. Honestly they thought it was super funny that people ran for sport.
Naresh barely finished. Running it in shoes was one of the most painful experiences of his life. He moved to the US in 2010, started running barefoot and in minimal footwear, and had a blast. He ran over 40 ultra marathons that year with no injuries. In 2011 he ran the vol state 500k race across Tennessee and miraculously won unassisted – sleeping in graveyards and Walmart parking lots off the roadside when he grew tired.
Naresh inspires me on the day-to-day and I’m so psyched to launch a short film about his story in a few weeks shot along the John Muir Trail!
