AUDITORIUM WITH ALAN MARTIN
Alan Martin is an amateur photographer based in Kent, England. Shooting all his photos on medium format analogue film, often using his plastic toy cameras (Diana F+, Holga, Traveller twin lens reflex, or his 1970’s Anny), he creates a dreamy vintage aesthetic from both staged and candid portraiture. The result is not, as he says, “award-standard digital work,” but that’s just the beauty of his work: a raw, unfiltered portrayal of the ocean and the lifestyles that thrive off it.

EXHIBITIONISTS: BECKY LUTH
Becky Luth grew up on a Montana farm, but it was her childhood dream of being a marine biologist that brought her to San Diego to attend college. Thanks to southern CA’s surf-friendly coastline and her husband’s influence as an artist, she became consumed by the surfing and learned to playfully capture surf and beach scenes as subjects for her paintings.

WAX MAGAZINE: ISSUE 2, CURTIS MANN INTERVIEW
We’re stoked to announce a new content partnership with WAX Magazine. WAX is a bi-annual print publication exploring the intersection of art, culture and surfing in and around New York City. They believe that beauty and meaning can be found on sidewalks, boardwalks, skyscrapers and beaches alike. And so do we. So we’re happy to host one article per issue right here on the KTV blog.
Each WAX issue is organized around a unique theme. The theme for issue 2 is Structures and this interview with Curtis Mann explores that theme through discussions of abstract photography, the paradox of surfing in the Midwest, and the transitions that artists go through during their careers.

CALLING ALL CANNING
Health Nuts will be back in a couple weeks with a new episode on canning. This is something we’ve been interested in for a long time as it’s a simple and effective way to preserve food in your own home. Since we’re so stoked on canning right now, we want to make sure we explore it from all angles when the show comes out. So, we’re asking you to help us out. Here’s what we’re looking for:
- any how-tos written for people who have never canned anything (your special Canning 101 instructions);
- delicious/interesting/unique recipes using ingredients from cans (hopefully ones that you filled yourself);
- expert images of canned food and/or the process of canning;
- list of foods that are best for in-home canning
- top 10 reasons to can
- your craziest canning moment
- odes to canning
- whatever you can think of
We’ll be featuring your submissions on the blog and our social media accounts all week long. You’ve got 1.5 weeks. Get your can in gear!
