Vote Today to Help Scientists Map Reefs

Our friend and fellow filmmaker Cliff Kapono got in touch to share information about an epic research project he is about to embark on with his fellow surfer/scientist at UC San Diego, Clint Edwards. They are proposing a one year project to visually map the health of the reefs in five locations: Pipeline, Teahupoo, P-Pass, Cloudbreak, and an unmarked reef with great waves.

They went to National Geographic for funding, as part of an “expedition granted” program. Their expedition, dubbed Through the Surface, is one of ten finalists. Voting starts today and ends Sept. 29. You can vote up to three times per day to help these scientists explore under the waters that we all love.
