So this may not be surf-related, but these two brothers, Chad and Kirk, are taking DIY to the next level with their handcrafted leather company, Billykirk out of Los Angeles. These unique, quality leather goods are created in the US, with the intent for them to become “heirlooms” to be passed down to future generations. The two brothers sparked the idea for Billykirk from a vintage 70’s watch strap found in a thrift shop in Santa Monica and decided to make their own. From there, they learned to create quality leather goods from a 3rd generation leather maker in LA (who was still using his grandfather’s tools). And now they create products that will last a lifetime and beyond. “We’ve sort of been blinded by so much junk. Personally, I think we’ve been in this throw-away society for a while now,” explained Kirk Bray.
