Kyle Thiermann and his Surfing for Change is out with a great new short film on the fight against genetically modified organisms in Hawaii. He followed pro surfers Dustin Barca, Kelly Slater and others on a protest march on Oahu and spoke with local farmers and activists to get a handle on the controversy. As with most issues, it’s a complicated one, and this film does a good job of introducing the problem.
In related news, Cyrus Sutton is currently working on a full documentary that will explore this subject in more detail, focusing on community opposition to food and water privatization and examining some solutions to these problems. Stay tuned for updates as progress continues.
